JLBC Cadet Corps Locker Room and Restroom Policy in Connecticut

**JLBC Cadet Corps Locker Room and Restroom Policy in Connecticut**

The JLBC Cadet Corps recognizes each cadet's diverse identities and unique needs. As such, we uphold inclusive and supportive policies regarding locker room and restroom access across all our facilities in Connecticut.

**1. Respect for Gender Identity:**

Cadets are entitled to access the restroom that aligns with their gender identity, as asserted at school. Ensuring every cadet feels safe, respected, and accepted in their educational environment, including their experience in restrooms and locker rooms, is vital.

**2. Maintenance of Facilities:**

While schools might have separate restroom facilities designated as "male" and "female," it is crucial that these labels do not become tools for exclusion. Access to these facilities should be based on a cadet's gender identity and not solely on their assigned birth sex.

**3. Privacy and Safety Provisions:**

We understand that there might be instances where a cadet might require or desire additional privacy or security. For such cases, alternative arrangements can be made regardless of the underlying reason. Schools can offer access to single-stall "unisex" restrooms or the health office restroom, ensuring the cadet's comfort.

**4. Administration's Role:**

Decisions regarding alternative restroom use should always prioritize the cadet's safety and well-being. School administrators are responsible for making these decisions after careful consideration and deliberation.

**5. No Compulsion:**

Under no circumstances should a cadet be compelled or coerced to use a restroom that contradicts their asserted gender identity. It is crucial for administrators, educators, and peers to be sensitive to each cadet's needs and to prevent any form of discrimination or discomfort.

In conclusion, the JLBC Cadet Corps is committed to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and understanding environment. We recognize that the journey toward inclusivity is an ongoing process, and we continue to review our policies to ensure they align with the best interests of all our cadets.
